Infant Feeding: Supporting Mothers in Doing What Is Best for Them and Their Families (Without Shaming Them)

Medical Historian Dr. Jackie Wolf describes the history of breastfeeding and infant formula marketing in the US and developing nations as well as public health efforts to promote breastfeeding; Lynn Hellenga, retired Bozeman RD/IBCLC, discusses what can go wrong with breastfeeding and how lactation consultants can help; Sarah Christopherson, Policy Advocacy Director at the National Women’s Health Network, talks about some unintended consequences of the “Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative” and suggests structural reforms that could better support new mothers; and Victoria LaFromboise, a public health professional with a long history advocating for women’s, babies’ and Native Americans’ health who is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, shares information about how some indigenous communities support breastfeeding Moms.
