Dr. Jerry Calvert, retired MSU Professor of Political Science, was the speaker at the Wonderlust Friday Forum on May 9 at the Bozeman Public Library. With the upcoming election cycle at hand, the media is full of candidate ads and news stories concerning spending, redistricting, and registration issues. As Dr. Calvert says, “we are in a rough patch for democratic and constitutional government and equal protection of the laws.” Dr. Calvert tried to provide some assistance to sift through these issues, discussing Congressional and state legislative districting rules, campaign finance in light of recent court decisions, and state attempts to suppress voter participation.
