Standing Rock informational overview at MSU

A series of speakers and a panel discussion focusing on the gathering at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline were held on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Montana State University.

Co-sponsored by the MSU Department of Native American Studies and the Society of American Indian Graduate Students, the event featured a lecture about “How History and Treaties Led to the Reckoning at Standing Rock” by Dion Killsback, an MSU graduate who is an attorney with the Rosette Law Firm, which specializes in Native American issues. Killsback’s presentation is available on video on an MSU Native American Studies Facebook post.

MSU students who have traveled to Standing Rock discussed their experiences in “Journey to Standing Rock and Experience at Oceti Sakowin Camp.” They were joined by Water Protectors describing their activities and what keeps them going. The eloquence of all made an impression.

The second recording is the American Indian writer and activist Jaqueline Keeler speaking about “The Bundy Standoff vs. the Standing Rock Resistance: A Critical Comparison.”
