Rod Nash – Rights of Nature

Roderick Frazier Nash is professor emeritus of history and environmental studies at the University of California Santa Barbara. In the wake of the 1969 oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara, Rod was one of the authors of the Santa Barbara Declaration of Environmental Rights, to acknowledge human-caused environmental harms and our enormous powers to alter the world. Among other works, Rod is best known for Wilderness & the American Mind, first published in 1967 and now in its fifth edition (2014), and the Rights of Nature, a history of environmental ethics, published in 1989. Both are still available.
