Statewide, 394 people have been hospitalized, and 119 people are currently being treated in Montana hospitals for COVID-19. Yellowstone County has had the largest number of confirmed cases in any of the counties in the state of Montana, with 1,816 cases so far. Gallatin County has had 1,023. The number of active coronavirus cases in Montana is 1,636. The most active cases are in Yellowstone County, with 799 active cases. Gallatin County has 27 active cases.

6 more people have died since Monday of COVID-19 in Montana. Yellowstone County reported 5 of those deaths. They were a man in his 90s and a man in his 80s, both of whom died at a senior living facility and a woman in her 80s who died in her home. The other two Yellowstone County cases were a man in his 60s who died in the hospital and a woman in her 80s who died at Canyon Creek Memory Care Center in Billings. She is the 17th Canyon Creek resident to die of COVID-19 from that facility’s outbreak, officials said. In Montana, 97 people have died due to coronavirus infection. Nationwide, more than 177,000 Americans have died. There have been 5,750,000 cases of coronavirus in the US, and counting.

World-record sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt has tested positive for the coronavirus and is self-isolating at his home in Jamaica after last week celebrating his 34th birthday with a big bash mask-free. Bolt holds world records in the 100m and 200m distance and is the only sprinter to win gold medals in those events at three consecutive Olympics. It’s unknown as of yet if others at his birthday party contracted coronavirus.

Researchers in Hong Kong on Monday reported the first confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection in a 33-year-old man who was first infected by SARS-CoV-2 in late March and then, four and a half months later, contracted the virus again while traveling in Europe. Researchers at the University of Hong Kong sequenced the virus from the patient’s two infections and found that they did not match, indicating the second infection was not tied to the first. There was a difference of 24 nucleotides — the “letters” that make up the virus’ RNA — between the two infections. It’s the world’s first documented case of a patient who recovered from COVID-19 but got another distinct episode of COVID-19 afterwards.

The University of Alabama reported more than 500 new coronavirus cases since classes resumed last Wednesday. The University of Alabama’s main campus in Tuscaloosa registered 531 infections between students, faculty and staff. That doesn’t include the cases detected in entry testing, which is an additional 310 positive cases.
