In the Montana legislature a bill that would have allowed the state of Montana to resume executions via lethal injection was voted down in the Senate on Thursday afternoon. House Bill 244 brought by Rep. Dennis Lenz, R-Billings, proposed revising Montana’s death penalty law in an effort to comply with a 2015 district court ruling that halted the use of one drug the state used for executions.

A Montana bill would make daylight saving time permanent if four Western state neighbors do the same.

Montana Republican legislative leadership Thursday issued a new round of subpoenas for all seven Montana Supreme Court justices and the court administrator in an ongoing inquiry into GOP claims of misconduct through the court’s email system. The Legislature, which is held by a Republican majority, has rapidly mobilized in the last week to investigate the judiciary for polling judges on pending legislation regarding the courts, while Democrats have denounced the GOP’s actions as attempts to undermine the courts.
