Ep. 546

As of Monday, November 1, 2021, Montana reports 176,976 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 1,137 new cases of coronavirus infection reported since yesterday: 171 new cases in Yellowstone County, 163 new cases in Flathead County, 102 new cases in Lewis & Clark County, and more new cases in 46 more Montana counties. The number of active coronavirus cases in Montana is 9,528. Currently, 395 people are being treated in Montana hospitals for COVID-19. 2,366 people have died in Montana of COVID-19. Twenty more people’s deaths have been reported since yesterday. Nationwide, more than 743,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. There have been 45,800,000 cases of coronavirus in the US, and counting.

The number of Yellowstone County residents dying from COVID-19 related illness in October 2021 has surpassed October 2020. So far, at least 50 Billings-area residents have died of COVID-19 this month compared to 38 in October last year.

Every ten years after the US Census, states re-draw their districts for even numbers of voters in Congressional and legislative districts. But the Montana effort to craft two U.S. House Districts stalled on Saturday. Montana’s growing population will add a second Congressional district, and a commission of five people is considering a number of different map proposals. Most have been dismissed as too heavily favoring one political party over the other, and a stalemate Saturday by the Districting and Apportionment Commission has further stymied the commissioners, who had hoped to settle on one map outlining the two new U.S. House Districts. There are now still four maps being considered.

US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been assessed four more fines for refusing to comply with House rules about masks. The House Ethics Committee issued a notice saying Greene will have to pay penalties for four separate incidents over the span of three days in late September.
