Community Issues

There are many questions communities face that cannot be resolved with simple decisions, but require ongoing discussion, education, and action. This program is dedicated to providing information about such issues from presentations that might otherwise be lost, as well as collecting perspectives from people who are knowledgeable about or affected by them.

Ear to the Ground

Ear to the Ground is a feature news program produced at irregular intervals by host, Rachel Leathe. Each episode of ETTG contains several unique segments but all relate to a general theme. Each individual segment is created by a different reporter.

Election 2018

We will cover nonpartisan candidate forums and other events related to the 2018 mid-term elections. The purpose is to inform the public. KGVM does not endorse any candidate or ballot measure.

Crossroads

Thanks to its converging rivers and configuration of mountain passes, the Gallatin Valley has always been a crossroads of people and culture. The Blackfeet called it Ahkoto Waktai Sakum, Many-Come-Together country. This program celebrates natural and cultural connections that have a strand passing through this place.

Ecotones

An ecotone is a transition zone between two biomes. It is where two communities meet and integrate. It may be narrow or wide. It may be local (the zone between a field and forest) or regional (the transition between forest and grassland.) An ecotone may appear as a gradual blending of two communities across a broad area, or it can manifest itself as a sharp boundary line.

Ecotones explores the variety and diversity of the Greater Gallatin Valley Community … and beyond….. offering audio echo tones as our communities influence – and are influenced by – each other, bridging limits and boundaries, celebrating diversity.

Forthright Radio

Forthright Radio, with host Joy LaClaire based in Bozeman, brings dynamic and important writers, authors, and persons of interest on the program to talk about issues of the day. A sample of recent guests includes UCLA History Professor, Benjamin Madley, award winning environmentalist, Alexis Bogonofsky, Christopher Achens, Henry Giroux, Dan Grazier, Suzanne Kelly and John Trudell, and many more.

Forthright Radio is a Beyond The Deep End production, originally broadcast from the Philo studio of KZYXfm, listener-supported Mendocino County Public Broadcasting, and generously shared with KGVM.

Election 2017

We will cover candidate forums and other events related to the 2017 elections.

I Am Interchange

I Am Interchange is a humanities project and talk show style event where artists, activists & entrepreneurs with different ideas and perspectives come together to address multiple topics and provoke thoughtful dialogue. We don’t necessarily need a solution when we’re finished, though a good mind flush of new ideas and creativity can offer wisdom and perspective to our own process and development. By doing so, we create a level platform for history, politics, religion, philosophy, criticism, ethics, self-consciousness, reason, creativity, human values and aspirations. Our dialogue podcast is available worldwide from the IAmInterchange channel on SoundCloud.

Gallatin History Series

The Gallatin Historical Society has the mission of preserving and making accessible for study and research, the history of the Gallatin County and southwest Montana through the gathering, study and organizing of available information such as letters, stories, interviews, newspaper or other written reports, photographic images and memorabilia or artifacts. The Society operates the Gallatin History Museum, housed in the former county jail on Main Street in Bozeman since 1982. More information can be found at the Gallatin History Museum web site.

The Men’s Network Radio

Host James Kozlik will provide resources to connect men with self discovery tools to help them toward a better self awareness.

micromegas

Eli Bowe, a VISTA volunteer working in the Office of Economic Development for the City of Bozeman, has created a podcast about local entrepreneurs: who they are, where they have come from, and how they have achieved their success (or not). He calls it micromegas, after the story by Voltaire, and because of the mega potential of the initially micro efforts of people who start things that matter. Visit the micromegas website for all of the podcast episodes.

If you are an entrepreneur in Bozeman, or know someone who is, feel free to contact Eli. He’s always looking for fresh stories to tell. vista@bozeman.net

Local Literati

Local Literati showcases the works of authors from the Greater Yellowstone Area with an emphasis on readings mixed with exploration of the writing process.  Our desire is to broaden the audience for local authors.

The program is hosted by Diane Elliott, a Bozeman author who has written books as diverse as Sunshine Soil and Short Seasons, a guide to high altitude gardening;  Strength of Stone, an award winning historical novel; Shattering Porcelain Images and When Volcanoes Wake, collections of poems; as well as numerous articles and legislative testimony for Common Cause and the League of Women Voters.

The Montana Minute

The Montana Minute podcast is produced by Zak Reimer of the Center for Children, Families, and Workforce Development at the University of Montana. Episodes feature experienced professionals who provide information and suggestions for working with children and families.  This on the go learning is a great way to hear tips and information from professionals across the state of Montana.  The wide range of topics covered provide perspectives from different agencies working to improve the lives of children, youth, and families in the child welfare system.

Additional related materials are available here on the Center website.

My Community Issue

Close to the heart of a community radio station is the discussion of local community issues. Big issues, small issues, and everything in between. If you care about a topic and want to share your point of view–in 10 minutes or less–we want to hear from you. Email us at info@gallatincommunityradio.org, and we will make arrangements to record you, or send you details on recording yourself.
