Pirsig‘s Journey is a documentary in development by local filmmaker Dennis Davis and a producer from Tucson, Manola Carter. The documentary is about Robert Pirsig and his best selling book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. The radio show concerns a variety of storylines in and about the book and its impact on Robert Pirsig‘s life as revealed in the book and through interviews and articles that came out after its publication in 1974. The Program also delves into aspects of his philosophy, the Metaphysics of Quality.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
This first show introduces the program and provides details about how the book was launched and became a big hit. It also goes into some detail about the use of Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) the use of which began in the 1930’s. In 1962, Robert Pirsig involuntarily experienced ECT. The show ends with Robert’s release from the mental hospital and his discovery of boxes of notes written by the person he was before ECT had fouled his memory.
