Jo Anne Troxel reads poems and tells about one of her favorite poets, Stanley Kunitz. Kunitz became the tenth Poet Laureate of the United States in 2000 at the age of 95. Throughout his life, he was active in writing, publishing, and promoting poetry to several generations of readers. His book The Wild Braid is Jo Anne’s preferred gift to gardeners.

Wilfred Owen is one of the greatest poets of the First World War. He wrote about the trench warfare and gas attacks. He began writing poetry when he was ten years old, and died in action just before the end of the war.

The English poet, Rupert Brooke (1887-1915), once described by Yeats as “the handsomest young man in England,” is best known for his idealistic war poems. He enlisted at the outbreak of the war, at the age of 27.

Next in a series of World War I poets, Siegfried Sassoon was not only a leading English poet of the war, but was decorated for bravery on the Western Front.

In recognition of Memorial Day, Jo Anne reads the poem Corporal Stare by Robert Graves.

June Safford is a well-known painter and poet who is a retired English teacher from Bozeman Senior High School. She resides in Bozeman where she is currently editing her poems for a book.

Carolyn Pinet is a retired MSU Spanish teacher, and a well-established published poet. She lives in Bozeman with her son and granddaughter.

Greg Keeler is not only a poet (he writes every day) but also a song writer, playwright, and painter. He sings, and plays the guitar, harmonica and kazoo. He previously taught poetry and literature at Montana State University, where he is professor emeritus.

Steve Kirchoff, born and raised in Bozeman, has deep roots here in our town. He has been a member of the city Commission, an elected position, as well as the Mayor of Bozeman. He teaches poetry and literature at MSU, as well as writing poetry himself.
