A Discussion with the Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, Cam Sholly

Cam Sholly is Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park. He arrived last Fall to take over the leadership of Yellowstone, the nation’s First National Park and the Primary Gem in the National Park system. Cam Sholly is the son of  Dan Sholly, who was Chief Ranger in Yellowstone during the great fire of 1988. Cam was Director of the National Park Service’s Midwest Region office when the announcement was made that he would be the next superintendent of Yellowstone. Since early 2015, Sholly served as the NPS Midwest Regional Director, where he managed a team of 2000 employees and supervised operations of 61 national park units in 13 states. While Midwestern Director, Sholly oversaw the decision to reintroduce wolves to Isle Royale National Park. Sholly also established a regional Office of American Indian Affairs, to build stronger tribal relations across the region.  In this interview, he talks about the challenges he faces as Superintendent, his experiences in the back country,  and the issue of establishing priorities with limited resources.
