Ep. 407

As of Monday, May 3, 2021, Montana reports 109,092 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 62 new cases reported in the last day: 28 in Park County, 14 in Cascade County, 9 in Flathead County, and more new cases in 5 more Montana counties. Many Montana counties do not report over the weekend, and so official case counts do not include Gallatin County and others. The number of active coronavirus cases in Montana is 1,112. Currently, 59 people are being treated in Montana hospitals for COVID-19. The most active cases are in Gallatin, Yellowstone, Flathead, and Cascade Counties. 1,574 people have died in Montana of COVID-19. Nationwide, more than 577,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. There have been 32,400,000 cases of coronavirus in the US, and counting.

About 96% of Montanans who received their first COVID-19 vaccine have returned to get their second dose. Jim Murphy, administrator of the health department’s Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Bureau, says he’s pleased that nearly all Montanans who got a first dose are following up and have gotten their second one.

The Montana Legislature adjourned its regular biennial session last Thursday, after passing sweeping legislation with Republican majorities in the House of Representatives and the State Senate, allowing a conservative Republican platform to advance after Republican leaders said they’d been stymied by Democratic governors the past sixteen years.
