Ep. 435

As of Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Montana reports 111,844 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 13 new cases reported in the last day: 5 new cases in Cascade County, 5 new cases in Park County, and more new cases in two more Montana counties. Most Montana counties do not report over the weekend, and so official case counts do not include the most populous Gallatin County, Yellowstone County, and others. The number of active coronavirus cases in Montana is 732. Currently, 57 people are being treated in Montana hospitals for COVID-19. The most active cases are in Cascade, Yellowstone, and Flathead Counties. 1,613 people have died in Montana of COVID-19. Nationwide, more than 594,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. There have been 33,300,000 cases of coronavirus in the US, and counting.

Now proven against coronavirus, messenger RNA, or mRNA can do so much more. When the final Phase 3 data came out last November showing that mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna were more than 90% effective against coronavirus, Dr. Anthony Fauci had no words. He texted smiley face emojis to a journalist seeking his reaction.

The US Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that tribal police officers can stop and search non-Indians on tribal lands for potential violations of state or federal law. The justices unanimously reversed an appellate ruling in favor of a non-Native motorist who was charged with drug-related crimes after a tribal officer searched his pickup truck on a public road that crosses the Crow reservation in Montana.

A grizzly bear was killed by wildlife authorities in northwest Montana after it killed calves across numerous ranches in the Dupuyer area. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said the 450-pound male grizzly bear was shot last week after repeated attempts to trap the animal failed. The bear had been seen in photos from game cameras set up where the calves had been killed.
