As of Thursday, June 10, 2021, Montana reports 112,690 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 104 new cases reported in the last day: 26 new cases in Flathead County, 16 new cases in Cascade County, 16 new cases in Missoula County, 10 new cases in Yellowstone County, and more new cases in 15 more Montana counties. The number of active coronavirus cases in Montana is 643. Currently, 61 people are being treated in Montana hospitals for COVID-19. The most active cases are in Yellowstone, Flathead and Cascade Counties. 1,638 people have died in Montana of COVID-19. Two more deaths have been reported in the last day. Nationwide, more than 598,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. There have been 33,400,000 cases of coronavirus in the US, and counting.

Eight states — all but one of them in the Northeast — have fully vaccinated more than half of their residents against Covid-19. They are: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The US surgeon general is warning unvaccinated people that they are at risk from a potentially more dangerous Covid-19 variant. As a renewed sense of optimism sweeps the US this summer with lower reported Covid-19 cases, the Dr. Vivek Murthy has issued a warning for those not vaccinated: Don’t let your guard down quite yet.

Moderna has filed for emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration to use its Covid-19 vaccine in adolescents aged 12 to 17. If cleared by the FDA, it will become the second Covid-19 vaccine available in the United States for teens under 18 along with Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine, which was authorized for adolescents ages 12 to 15 in May.

Two members of a panel of outside advisors to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have resigned in protest at the agency’s decision to approve Biogen Inc’s Aduhelm for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The 11-member FDA committee voted nearly unanimously in November that Biogen’s drug should not be approved, citing inconclusive evidence. But the FDA on Monday gave the drug “accelerated approval,” based on company claims that it can reduce a likely contributor to Alzheimer’s disease, rather than proof of a clear benefit against the disease.

New data shows the entirety of four states are under drought conditions — California, Oregon, Utah and Nevada. Overall, drought is being experienced in 88% of the Western US as of this week.
