Since 1978, Intermountain Opera Bozeman has been bringing professional opera productions to Bozeman. In November 2022, they brought us the new American opera, The Falling and the Rising, which had been commissioned by the US Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus to create an emotional connection between the public and the military who protects them. This innovative, multi-media production, was designed to include many different local organizations supporting veterans as part of the pre-performance experience, as well as providing free tickets to active or retired military members. It was one of the most inclusive community events many of us can remember experiencing for many, many years.

Now, Intermountain Opera Bozeman is bringing Stephen Sondheim and James Lupine’s beloved fairy tale mashup, INTO THE WOODS, to the Ellen Theater on February 3rd to 5th and 10th to 12. It features many local talents as well as performers from far and wide. We spoke with Director, Josh Shaw, about INTO THE WOODS, via phone on January 30, 2023.
