Non-Partisan Elections

The Gallatin County ballot for 2019 includes a question about making County elections nonpartisan. If a majority of voters approve, there will in future be a single primary for the 10 county offices — the three county commissioners, county attorney, clerk of district court, sheriff, treasurer, auditor, superintendent of schools and clerk and recorder. In the following presentation, David Parker, Professor of Political Science at Montana State University, provides a historical perspective on non-partisan elections and the role of political parties.

KGVM does not endorse any political candidate, ballot measure, or legislation. We welcome your feedback and alternative points of view.
