Jay does a joint interview with Paula MacKay and her colleague and husband, Dr. Robert Long. Paula is a freelance writer and field biologist who has devoted her career to advocating for wildlife and wilderness. She has performed communications work for various conservation groups and her work has been published in magazines, anthologies and books. She holds an MFA in creative writing and is currently a Consulting Research Associate at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Her website is paulamackay.com. Dr. Long is a Senior Conservation Scientist at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. He has twenty-plus years of experience studying a broad diversity of wildlife on the East and West Coasts. His research interests include carnivore ecology, wildlife habitat connectivity and noninvasive methods for studying wildlife populations. Dr. Long holds two B.S. degrees and an M.A.plus a Ph.D. form the University of Vermont. His field projects at Woodland Park Zoo currently include developing noninvasive methods and protocols for studying wolverines, Canada lynx and other carnivores in the North Cascades, and facilitating the coordination of regional camera-trapping efforts.
