Jay visits the Pasayten Wilderness in this interview with Scott Fitkin, wildlife biologist with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife for the past 32 years. Scott began his WDFW career in 1989 as a field biologist on the North Cascades Grizzly Bear and Gray Wolf Evaluation project. Following that, Scott worked on a black bear research project for several months. Then in April of 1996, he moved to the Okanogan District Wildlife Biologist position where he has been ever since, during which time, he has had the pleasure of traveling in and around much of the Pasayten Wilderness. As a district biologist Scott has worked with a variety of creatures from bumblebees to wolverines and everything in between. Although he is a jack of all trades by definition, if he was to identify an area of relative expertise it would be with rare carnivores including grizzlies, wolves, lynx and wolverines. Reptiles and amphibians are also a special fascination of Scott’s. Join us for this trip into the Pasayten Wilderness.
